Summer Summit 2022

This year's summer summit, "Mi:Possible, Targeting Successful Transfer" will be held virtually on Wednesday, June 15th and Thursday, June 16th. 

Our two day summit will kick off with a keynote from Colby Cesaro, Vice President at the Michigan Independent Colleges and Universities association (MICU), who will share recent research on transfer student enrollment trends. We'll also hear updates from our association leaders and more.

Wednesday, June 15

9:00 to 9:45 a.m. — Welcome and Plenary

How do you zero in on transfer student success in a higher education culture and market that seems more fluid than ever before? At a time when we may be feeling anything but targeted in our workflows, processes, and goals? Join us as we kick off our virtual summit to consider these questions and set our sights on broadening our perspective of transfer issues and our roles in increasing transfer student success going forward.

1:30 to 2:40 p.m.— Association Updates - MASU, MCCA & MICU

Representatives from the Michigan Association of State Universities (MASU), Michigan Community College Association (MCCA) and Michigan Independent Colleges and Universities (MICU) will share news and updates on their respective association activities and bring us up to date on the various Statewide Transfer Initiatives.

Thursday, June 16

9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

— Registrars' Practices: FERPA 101

Whether you are new to the profession or a seasoned veteran, it's your responsibility to understand the importance of student privacy and the laws that pertain to student records. Attend this session to learn the basics of FERPA or to reinforce and clarify what you think you already know. We will wrap up with a lively discussion on how COVID has presented new challenges for compliance with FERPA.

— College Articulation: Best Practices for Advising and Retaining Adult Transfers

This session will look at how adult transfer recruitment has changed and how this change affects Transferring, Advising and Student Success. We will discuss the increased need for Student Success coaches, Tutoring and other services. We will also look at the trends in the adult market that are currently working.

— Registrars' Practices: Role of the Registrar

Focused on new Registrars or those new to the Registrar’s office, or those wanting more information about what a Registrar actually does. This session will give an overview of all the necessary pieces of a Registrar’s position and office responsibilities. Great conversation to round out your knowledge of what a Registrar should know and the vast range of possibilities on how to accomplish this interesting job successfully.

— College Articulation: Somewhere in the Middle - Meeting EMC Students Where They’re At

Join us for an in depth look at a growing cohort of Michigan college aged students- our Early Middle College students. We’ll explore best practices, resources, and advice from both the two and four year perspective to help you better understand how to attract and support these students through every step of the transfer process.

— Registrars' Practices: Registrar Roundtable

Come to the Registrar’s round table- an open forum discussion where everyone will be able to participate and join in the conversation! Get answers to your burning registrar and academic advising questions, learn what others are doing in this ever changing field and come prepared to share what's new and exciting at your institution. This is a great way to network and meet others who deal with issues within the registrar’s office on a daily basis.

— College Articulation: Transfer Roundtable

Now that we’ve broadened our perspective of the current transfer scene, let's zero in on Targeting Transfer Success with some lively conversation. The Transfer Roundtable is a fantastic way to increase your knowledge of the transfer articulation process, best practices in transfer recruitment and credit placement policy, and get those burning questions answered from your counterparts on ‘the other side’. This is also a great forum for networking and meeting others who regularly navigate the complex world of transfer articulation and recruitment! This will be an open forum discussion where everyone will be able to participate and join in the conversation!
